Thankful Thursday (0-4yrs) Royal Family

Here is our second in our series on Exodus and Moses gets a royal moment. So find an instrument and something to wear that makes you feel like a Prince or Princess and we will be ready to go. Grown-ups don't miss the Thankful Thought below. Do keep sending me "Hello" video clips to add in and any new versions of the final blessing - also most welcome. Love Claire xx

Thankful Thought – Thursday 11th November 2020 – Exodus 2 v 4 – end

So in today’s story there is a fantastic plot twist for our mother who last week obeyed the law of the land and put her baby son in the river, not to drown but in a basket boat. The child is discovered by the Pharaoh’s daughter who has compassion on the baby and adopts it. However due to the intervention of the watching sister the child’s own mother is called to nurse the baby for the Pharaoh’s daughter and in verse 9 we read for nursing her own child she will receive wages from the Pharaoh’s daughter! What a turn around. Last week her son’s life was in danger as all male children were to be thrown into the river and drowned – this week she is receiving wages for caring for that same child! I love it when God’s intervention takes a situation that looks bleak and is full of fear and turns it around and adds blessings never imagined.

Moses then grows up as an Egyptian prince. I drew from the story for the children that we are all adopted into God’s family because of Jesus our King and we are therefore royalty in the kingdom of God! How does that make you feel? Do you feel like you belong in your royal robes or do you feel a bit like you have just put on a costume for an episode of Strictly and you are not too sure of the dance moves to come? Moses felt confused and his compassion for his people led him to make some dodgy dance moves as we see in verses 12-15 and he fled Egypt as a murderer and hid down a well. The ever merciful God provided for him and by the end of the chapter 2 he has a wife, a son and a new job as a shepherd in Midian. As we will see in the coming weeks God hadn’t finished with him yet.

When it comes to being Christians, part of God’s Royal family we are all works in progress. Mistakes are allowed, forgiveness is possible, fresh starts are assured for the repentant heart. To quote 2 Corinthians that we are studying in our preaching series at the moment:

2 Corinthians 3:18

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.gf

So I pray that we all experience the Holy Spirit transforming us despite our circumstances each day to be more like Jesus and I pray that if you are feeling fear like the mother in our story or like Moses when he ran way – that God will hear your prayer and turn-around the fear or failure and bless you in ways you never imagined.

Blessings Claire xx
