St James The Great
St James’ the Great is an ancient place of worship with a welcoming atmosphere. It has the feel of a much-loved church at the centre of a village community, and indeed some members of the congregation have been attending for much of their lives.
It is open to visitors every day from 9 am – 5 pm.

We love coffee and cake at St. James and always serve it after every Communion. Additionally we are happy to look for any other excuse – Mothering Sunday, a special birthday, a Royal commemoration …

Our curate is Rev. Chris Absolon. Services are held every Sunday at 9.30 am, are fairly traditional in nature and follow this pattern:
1st and 3rd Sunday
Parish Communion (printed service sheets)
2nd and 4th Sunday
Morning Service (printed service sheets)
5th Sunday
Morning Service (Book of Common Prayer)
There are occasional exceptions, with special events, or services at a slightly later time, which are shown below in the Upcoming Events section. Services can be lay-led, but sermons are always preached by an ordained or licensed member of the church.
We love to see families, from within or outside the parish, keeping our church vibrant and alive. Everyone is welcome, particularly new residents of the village.
If you can't get to church in person then online services are available in our benefice from Holy Trinity Combe Down just use the buttons below. Live Stream on Sundays 9am or 10.45am. Catch-Up at other times

They are made by the children as part of the service. Each element of a Christingle has a special meaning and helps to tell the Christian story.
