Seniors Ministry

Earlier in the year the Seniors Ministry held an open evening at Holy Trinity. The purpose as to inform, inspire, encourage, pray and to thank God and those involved in this rewarding ministry.

We had a very encouraging evening with a good number gathering despite the hailstorm that started as people left home! The evening began with drinks and cakes served by my home group (with thanks). I wanted my team and those coming to be served rather than serving others for a change.

We then went on to hear about all the good things happening with Seniors for example -

• Peggy Dodd Centre

• Springfield care home

• A monthly service and lunch at St Andrews

• The meals ministry

• Pastoral meetings, prayer and visiting

• A dementia friendly carol service

• and our lovely outreach event this year summer afternoon tea and concert

Every team member was thanked, given a round of applause and presented with a book.

I shared about the new relationships that have been established with those living and working at The Orchard, an extra care independent living complex in Combe Down. I then spoke about the vision for Seniors ministry and how I aim to put this into practice in the coming year.

This was followed by a time of prayer. I decided to facilitate all our prayers using traditional board games as inspiration (as seen in any day centre!)

Over tea and coffee (and more cake) people prayed, chatted, encouraged others and exchanged experience.

Thank you for reading.

Polly (Seniors Minister)
