On Saturday 5th October we had a very successful Jumble Sale in aid of the charity, Turning Point Trust, which we support at St Andrews.
We raised the brilliant total of £620.55 due to many items being generously donated, and the hard work of a great team of volunteers from St Andrews and Holy Trinity.
The Turning Point Trust works in very challenging circumstances within Kibera Slum, Nairobi, Kenya. Although the surroundings are very different to ours here at St Andrews, the values and ethos of Turning Point and St Andrews are very similar, and we love to raise money for their amazing work.
Peter and I visited the charity last November. We were so impressed and challenged by seeing firsthand how difficult life is for people living in Kibera, and yet how resilient and determined the families are to make the very best of the opportunities they do have.
Turning Point’s Vision is to empower the vulnerable families and children of Kibera slum by creating opportunities for them to reach their full God-given potential.
They do this by giving access to a quality education through the Kianda Children’s Centre, Fountains of Hope School, and Primary and Secondary School support. The charity also offers children learning resources and opportunities through their community library.
Through all this work the inspiring team develop friendships with the families they work with and demonstrate God’s love through practical support.
Do check out their website if you would like to learn more about Turning Point.
