Men's Weekend Away

Our men's weekend is over the 18th, 19th and 20th of October at Lee Abbey in North Devon, using the Beacon Activity centre for our group. Arrivals are at 16:00 on the Friday 18th. 

The days will be split between enjoying the scenery with walks through the countryside (to a pub, perhaps!) good food and company, daily relfections and a Sunday sermon from Shawn Swinney and Ben Notley, around talks from Author Helen Rowe on various subjects from her book - Eliminating Poverty in Britain -  followed by question and discussion time. It's a great time to get to know the men in your community, take a break to enjoy the British countryside and challenge your perception of what poverty is and how we can better deal with it. 

During this week-end we attempt to understand the reality of UK poverty, together with its scale and its impact on our society. We analyse the concept of the “undeserving poor” and consider whether the levels of child and family poverty are acceptable in 2024 and, if not, what solutions could be found. We aim to avoid being “ party political” and to focus on real and fundable solutions.
