Men's Romania House Build Project

Location: Reghin, Romania

Purpose: We are supporting Attila and Adele Toth in their work with the local Roma and Romanian  Community. Their activities include running six churches, a children’s home, an educational programme, a horticulture centre and a large pig farm.

Description of work involved: The central tasks are to help complete the Farm and Horticulture area,building pig sties for the farm, a machinery shelter at the farm, rigid fencing between the children’s home and horticulture area, and completing a sunken greenhouse both for winter food production and also to propagate seeds.

Time will also be available to visit families in the Gypsy / Roma community - spending time with the orphans in the family home and contributing to the service in the Gypsy/ Roma community. The final evening involves a visit to Sighisoara Medieval Town [Unesco world heritage site] for our last meal, hotel stay and breakfast.

Cost - £550Includes: flight, return transport from airports in Romania, use of three Land Rover Defenders for the project, plus all accommodation and food.

Does not include: personal holiday insurance, return transport and parking at Luton Airport.

NB. The cost of flights does change so I am holding this price until April 1st.

Who can come?

This is not a designated church trip.

It is absolutely appropriate for general mates from outside the church.

It is also great for dads and sons, providing your son is of a safe age to be on a building site! [14 plus?]There is no expectation of building expertise. You will have a small-group leader who knows the tasks and the tools.  Although the faith approach of Attila and the team is hugely inspiring the programme will be designed to appeal to those of a non-Christian perspective and individuals can choose to opt in or out of certain activities.

Responsibilities.

When the group is established we will need to raise money to buy the materials we need and to hire our Romanian engineer, Emilian. In general this is about £300 p.p.  but tends to be quite easy to raise - an auction/ music evening at St Andrews went down well last time but there are lots more ideas.
