Thankful Thursday (0-4 yrs) Sparkles!

Dear All - we are back for the new term - still online for now. Current guidelines are still for pre-schoolers not to meet yet as we all protect the new school bubbles and pray they all get back safely.

Please register your child via the registration page so that I can get the name call right and have your details to invite you as and when we are able to offer something more real! This terms theme is creation and today we look at light/darkness, sky, sea & land. To join in you need a musical instrument and something sparkly for our prayers. Grown-ups - do read the Thankful Thought for you just below the youtube video link.

Thankful thought - September 3rd 2020 – Creation – Shine like stars!

Genesis 1 v 1-10 & Philippians 2 v14-16

Never have I been so glad to get to September – usually it marks the end of the summer and the holidays and the return to a very busy patch at work and I never really like September – even though it includes my birthday! But this year I am so glad we have made it for my boys to get back to school.

Sadly we cannot yet get back to meeting together- we must protect the school bubbles by not creating too many other places for the virus to multiply. Let’s keep praying we can see each other soon.

When I was re-telling the beginning of the creation story for the children this year – the sparkling of it all stood out to me. First light was created and then the water was gathered and divided to create sky, sea and land. I was so struck on our trip to the south welsh coast this year by the breath-taking beauty of the ever-changing light on the sea – so sparkly and changing. I also loved the rhythm of the tides cleaning the beaches of the mess we make every day. God likes things that sparkle – God says they are good.

One of the awful things about face masks is how they hide the sparkle of human smiles – I am so glad we are not denied the smiles of little ones xx In thinking of sparkles I was reminded of the passage in Philippians 2, where we as God’s children are encouraged to shine like stars:

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[c] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.

Perhaps our smiles cannot shine out our love to others but what other ways can we sparkle for God? The passage suggests by not grumbling or arguing – there is a challenge! There has been a fair amount of grumbling in my house and the odd argument! But we must try to walk the path of peacemakers and hold firmly to the word of life. Notably that Jesus died for our sins and new every morning is God’s mercy – like the tide washing the beach – God’s love in Jesus offers us all a clean start and chance to shine for him.

To all you sparkly parents – lots of love and prayers Claire xxxx
